LISTENING LINE
The listening line provides an anonymous and easily accessible avenue for support and information for LGBITTQ youths 14 to 25 and the wider community. It is one of the core services that we offer at Project 10. The listening line provides peer support, crisis counseling, as well as information and referrals to LGBITTQ services. The line may be particularly useful for people who are not ready to access services in person, or who live too far away to be able to make it to Project 10. It is open Monday through Thursday from 12 to 6 pm and can be reached by dialing 514.989.4585.
PEER COUNSELLING & ACCOMPANIMENT
Project 10 offers individual counseling sessions for youths and/or their families to discuss issues related to sexual orientation and/or gender identity. In addition to these one-on-one sessions, we also offer accompaniment services for Project 10 service users. In the past we have accompanied people to doctor’s appointments, HIV testing, social assistance offices, interviews for cooperative housing, other community organizations, shelters, and court dates.
ONLINE GROUPS
Project 10 offers youth 2 different online groups. The groups provide an open forum to share information and ideas. Email to the groups is monitored by staff and interns and allows youths
to write to the group and receive messages from group members through yahoogroups.ca. Project 10 also offers online support by answering email questions sent to questions@p10.qc.ca.
DROP-IN
Project 10 has a weekly bilingual drop-in on Monday nights from 6 to 8 pm for youths 14 to 25. The drop-in is an open, semi-structured group, facilitated by staff and interns. The content of the drop-in is largely youth directed. You’re in charge! Once a month, we have a brain storming session to decide on the next month’s schedule. Some favourite activities include our springtime BBQ, and our very own P10 idol evening!
ADVOCACY
We also act as advocates for our service-users, to help them achieve their goals, including: finding affordable housing, finding employment, changing their name and sex designation on official identity papers, accessing sex-change surgery, being granted refugee status, staying out of prison, filing complaints documenting discrimination they’ve suffered, and more.
WORKSHOPS AND KIOSKS
We provide educational workshops for youths; teachers; and health and social service workers who interact with youth of diverse sexual and/or gender identities. We tailor the workshop to the recipients’ needs, but tend to focus on activities that aim to share information and resources, correct myths and invite discussion and questions about sexual orientation and gender identity. We also staff kiosks in schools and at community events in order to increase our visibility and to share information. TRANS HEALTH
At Project 10, we work hard to find doctors and other health professionals who are able and willing to work with Trans individuals in an open and non-judgmental way. To this end, we maintain a Trans Health Database of physicians, therapists, etc. to whom we are able to refer our participants. call or email us for more information!
